Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is unique subject to be studied, because in studying literature it will cover emotion, imagination, feeling, creativity, as well as the knowledge of it. In this study, it will be focused on onc٠litcrature a branch that is poetry. Poetry itself also has certain characteristic, they are symbol, allusion, devices, and figurative language. The scope in this study is limited on six poems, they are ،،Meeting at Night”, ،،Parting at Morning”, ،،A Woman’s Lat Word”, poems written by Robert Browning and ،،She Walks in Beauty”, ”When We Two Parted”, ‘،So, We’ll Go No More A Roving”, poems written by Lord Byron.
The purposes of this study are to know the meaning, either general or detail meaning of the six poems, then, to know how Robert Browning and Lord Byron express the sense of love in their poems, and to find out the differences and the similarities of them.
This study uses descriptive research design to describe the content of the poems. And the approach is expressive approach, to study the expresion of the poet’s feeling, perception, and idea.
The results of this study are the general meaning of Browning’s poems is about Browning’s feeling, the detail meaning is about his lover’s journey so vividly, in terms of sense impressions, and partially explains the mistery of love. The general meaning of Byron’s poems is about Byron’s love. The detail meaning is about his love to his beloved lady is so great, deeply, freely, and purely that he will hold in all his love. The ways Browning expresses the sense of love are struggle, sweet, exciting experience, smoothly, wholeheartedly, and patiently. Byron does by beyond reason, tense, excited with enthusiasm, flatly, wholeheartedly, and imaginatively.
The differences of them are Browning expresses it by more actives, sweet, exciting experiences, strongly, struggling, und the quality of their love is. different. Browning’ love more than Byron’s love. But, Byron is passive, tense, excited with enthusiasm, smoothly, purely, imaginatively, well, and Byron’s love is only the description of his love’s natural outward appearance to a suggestion of the tremendous beauty which be within her.
And the similarities are both of them, they love to their lovers with enthusiasm, beyond reason, whole heartedly, and aware that they will leave their lovers but they believe that they can meet again because of the power of love.
