Impoliteness strategies used on The Dumbest Advice for Workers Ever at Jimmy Dore Show

Impoliteness is one of the actions for communications that people sometimes commonly used in conversations. But people intentionally or not sporadically used it. In general, people apply it to attack people in some context situation. ‘The Dumbest Advice for Workers Ever’ video is an example for it. It is a video from Jimmy Dore Show channel in YouTube in which the host and co-host used impolite acts or utterances to attack others, the news they covering. The video shows the use of some impoliteness strategies by host and co-host, Jimmy Dore and Kurt Metzger. Considering the social phenomena that happen in the coverage, many impolite acts in the content, and the researcher is interested in analyzing them. There are two research questions of this research. The first one is finding the types of impoliteness used. The second question is finding the functions of the impoliteness applications. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by observing the impolite utterances uttered by Jimmy Dore and Kurt Metzger in ‘The Dumbest Advice For Workers Ever’ video. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Jimmy Dore and Kurt Metzger used four types of impoliteness strategies, including bald on record, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, and sarcasm impoliteness. However, the researcher did not find the use of withhold impoliteness as a type of impoliteness strategy to be used. For the functions of impoliteness, the researcher found affective impoliteness function, coercive function, and entertainment function, but the researcher did not find institutional impoliteness function.
