Abstract
INDONESIA:
Sikap percaya diri memang sangat dibutuhkan oleh setiap individu dan sosial. Ketika individu atau siswa tidak memiliki rasa percaya diri maka akan memunculkan siswa yang cenderung takut setiap menghadapi ujian, kurang berani bertanya dan menyatakan pendapat, grogi didepan kelas, timbulnya rasa malu yang berlebihan. Kondisi demikian, bila dibiarkan begitu saja tidak saja menghambat proses belajar siswa melainkan juga menghambat hubungan sosialnya. Begitu pula dengan kemandirian, siswa yang tidak memiliki kemandirian, akan memiliki kebiasaan belajar yang kurang baik seperti, cepat merasa bosan dalam belajar, mau belajar ketika menjelang ujian, dan suka menyontek. Untuk itu di dalam lingkungan sekolah, sikap percaya diri dan kemandirian memang perlu ditanamkan sejak dini kepada siswa.
Berdasarkan gambaran di atas peneliti tertarik melakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui kepercayaan diri siswa SMP Plus Mambaul Ulum Sukowono Jember, (2) mengetahui kemandirian siswa, (3) mengetahui hubungan antara kepercayaan diri dan kemandirian siswa SMP Plus Mambaul Ulum Sukowono Jember.
Jenis Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SMP Plus Mambaul Ulum Sukowono Jember, dengan jumlah populasi 164 siswa dan jumlah sampel 50 siswa, pengambilan sampel dengan cara Cluster random sampling. Dan data pendukung dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui, observasi, wawancara, serta dokumentasi. Alat ukur psikologi yang digunakan sebagai pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah skala Likert, skala yang digunakan ada 2 yaitu skala kepercayaan diri 40 aitem dan skala kemandirian 40 aitem. Metode analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik korelasi Product Moment Karl Pearson dengan menggunakan bantuan SPSS 16.0 for windows.
Berdasarkan hasil analisa tingkat kepercayaan diri pada kategori sedang dengan prosentase 68% artinya siswa memiliki kemandirian, berani mengungkapkan pendapat, akan tetapi terkadang siswa juga masih merasa bingung apabila ditanya, merasa gugup, memiliki perasaan minder. Kemandirian siswa dalam kategori sedang dengan prosentase 66% artinya siswa mampu untuk mengurus diri sendiri, mengambil keputusan sendiri, akan tetapi terkadang siswa juga masih meminta bantuan orang lain dalam memecahkan masalahnya, meminta pertimbangan orang lain untuk mengambil keputusan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dengan menggunakan korelasi product moment didapatkan hasil (rxy 0,685; dengan sig < 0,05) dan p = 0,000. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kepercayaan diri dengan kemandirian. Maka, hipotesis yang berbunyi : “Ada hubungan positif antara Kepercayaan Diri dengan Kemandirian” diterima. Artinya, semakin tinggi kepercayaan diri siswa maka tingkat kemandiriannya juga tinggi.
ENGLISH:
A self-confident manner is truly required by a student both as a private individual and as a member of social community. One of the logical consequences when students have no self-confidence is that they tend to underestimate their capabilities when doing schools’ exams, are likely afraid of raising questions, expressing opinions, getting nervous in front of the class and showing paralysed fears. If those problems are not solved, they hinder students not only from learning (in school) but also from building positive social relationship. Meanwhile, the students with no independency are associated with severe learning behaviour such as feeling bored as quickly as they are learning, studying only when the exams are about coming and are fond of cheating. Therefore, students’ self-confident manner and independency should be taught in early ages in school environment.
Corresponding to the issues at hand, the researcher has an interest in conducting research to be able to: (1) acquire the students’ self confidence (2) obtain the information of students’ independency, (3) look for the correlation between the students’ self confidence and students’ independency of Junior High School Plus Mambaul Ulum Sukowono, Jember.
The quantitative approach was used in this investigation where the setting of the research was located in Junior High School Plus Mambaul Ulum Sukowono, Jember. It had 164 populations and 50 students were sampled by employing cluster random sampling method. Observation, interview and documentation were established to have additional supportive data. Likert scale as a tool of psychological measurement was applied to collect the relevant data. Meanwhile, there are two kinds of scales used in this context: 40 items as a scale of students’ self confidence and 40 items as a scale of students’ independency. The researcher utilized the correlation technique of Karl Pearson Product Moment and SPSS 16.0 for windows as an additional tool to analyze the chosen data.
The recent research shows that the level of students’ self confidence with the percentage of 68% indicates that they have independency, dare to express their opinions, but somehow are confused, nervous and underestimated when being asked. The level of students’ independency with the percentage of 66% demonstrates that they are able to manage themselves, make a decision independently, in some ways nevertheless, ask others for help to tackle their problems and find out others’ c onsiderations at making decisions. The finding which used the correlation of product moment reveals rxy 0,685; with sig < 0,05) and p = 0,000. It certainly proves that there is a significant correlation between the self-confidence and independency. The result thus confirms the hypothesis (there is a positive relationship between the self-confidence and independency). In other words, the higher of students’ self confidence level, the higher of students’ independency level gained.
