Abstract
INDONESIA:

Agriculture is a vital sector that heavily depends on water availability to support plant growth and productivity. Limited water resources in dryland areas necessitate the development of irrigation systems capable of distributing water efficiently and accurately according to plant requirements. This study aims to optimize water distribution in a drip irrigation system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) by employing the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm to determine irrigation priority paths and the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller to maintain stable water flow rates. The experimental results indicate that the sensor calibration process successfully reduced the average measurement error to 2.41%. The ACO algorithm achieved its best parameter configuration with a 0% error rate, while evaluation using 30 test datasets resulted in an error MAPE rate of 16.67%. The PID controller evaluation showed that the optimal parameters were obtained at Ki = 7, Kp = 150, Ki = 7 atau 8, dan Kd = 15, enabling the system to reach the desired setpoint with 0,00% error. The implementation of the proposed algorithms also improved water distribution uniformity, as indicated by a reduction in the Coefficient of Variation (CV) from 13.43% to 1.48% and an increase in the Christiansen Uniformity (CU) coefficient from 76.68% to 95.47%. Furthermore, the system reduced water consumption by 39% compared to conventional irrigation methods. It also improved pump energy efficiency, as demonstrated by a reduction in the duty cycle from 100% to 47.8% and a decrease in the average current consumption from 1.86 A to 0.91 A. These findings demonstrate that the integration of the ACO algorithm and PID control can effectively improve water distribution efficiency, maintain stable flow rates, and support more efficient utilization of both water and energy resources in drip irrigation systems.
