Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Chlorella sp. is one kind of microalgae that have a large enough potential to produce useful products. Utilization of Chlorella sp. the health sector is still under- developed, therefore in this study Chlorella sp. used as an antibacterial. The use of antibacterial expected to cope with the presence of pathogenic bacteria that are harmful to humans. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of ethyl acetate fraction, chloroform, petroleum ether, n-hexane and methanol extracts of microalgae Chlorella sp. against E. coli and S. aureus, as well as to determine the class of microalgae Chlorella sp. active compounds. which has the highest antibacterial activity.
Cultivation of microalgae Chlorella sp. performed using Sprouts Extract Medium (MET). Biomass of Chlorella sp. obtained was extracted using the method of maceration with methanol. The methanol extract of each phase is hydrolyzed and partitioned using n- hexane solvent variations, petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethyl acetate. The results of each extract were tested antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion method, with the variations in concentration of 0,5 %; 1 %; 1,5 %; 2 %; 2,5 % of the bacteria E. coli and S. aureus. Results extract that has the highest antibacterial activity were further tested phytochemicals. The results showed that all the extracts of Chlorella sp. does not have antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria. Meanwhile, petroleum ether extract of Chlorella sp. has the highest antibacterial activity against S. aureus, with inhibition zones of 10 mm at a concentration of 2,5 %. The results of the identification of classes of active compounds extract of Chlorella sp. which has the highest antibacterial activity showed a group of steroid compounds.
