Abstract
INDONESIA:
Psychological distress atau tekanan psikologis merupakan masalah kesehatan mental yang banyak dialami remaja, ditandai dengan kecemasan, depresi, dan kehilangan kontrol diri. Di Indonesia, prevalensinya mencapai 34,9%, berdampak pada gangguan konsentrasi belajar dan motivasi akademik menurun. Optimisme sebagai variabel bebas diduga berperan menurunkan tekanan psikologis, yaitu kecenderungan individu mengharapkan hasil positif di masa depan. Fenomena di SMA Negeri 1 Kepanjen menunjukkan tingginya kasus siswa yang mengalami kecemasan masa depan, overthinking, dan stres akademik akibat tuntutan sekolah maupun orang tua berdasarkan laporan BK tahun 2025. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara optimisme dengan psychological distress pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Kepanjen.
Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional dengan melibatkan 211 siswa kelas XI melalui purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) untuk mengukur optimisme dan Azira Mental Health Scale (AMHS) untuk mengukur psychological dstress yang mencakup tiga dimensi: kecemasan, depresi, dan kehilangan kontrol diri. Analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi Pearson Product Moment.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hubungan negatif signifikan antara optimisme dan psychological distress (r = -0,189; p = 0,006). Mayoritas siswa berada pada kategori optimisme sedang (58,8%) dan tekanan psikologis sedang (66,8%).
Optimisme memiliki hubungan signifikan dengan dimensi depresi (r = -0,258; p =0,000), namun tidak signifikan dengan kecemasan dan kehilangan kontrol diri. Optimisme berperan sebagai sumber daya psikologis internal yang membantu
remaja mengelola stres akademik, khususnya mencegah gejala depresi.

Psychological distress is a mental health problem commonly experienced by adolescents, characterized by anxiety, depression, and loss of self-control. In
Indonesia, its prevalence reaches 34.9%, resulting in impaired concentration and decreased academic motivation. Optimism, as an independent variable, is thought to play a role in reducing psychological distress, which is the tendency for individuals to expect positive outcomes in the future. The phenomenon at SMA Negeri 1 Kepanjen shows high rates of students experiencing future anxiety, overthinking, and academic stress due to school and parental demands, according to the 2025 Guidance and Counseling report. This study aims to determine the relationship between optimism and psychological distress in 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Kepanjen.
The study used a quantitative correlational approach, involving 211 11th-grade students through purposive sampling. Data collection used the Life Orientation
Test-Revised (LOT-R) to measure optimism and the Azira Mental Health Scale (AMHS) to measure psychological distress, which encompasses three dimensions: anxiety, depression, and loss of self-control. Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test.
The results showed a significant negative relationship between optimism and psychological distress (r = -0.189; p = 0.006). The majority of students were in the
moderate optimism category (58.8%) and moderate psychological distress (66.8%). Optimism had a significant relationship with the depression dimension (r = -0.258; p = 0.000), but not significantly with anxiety and loss of self-control. Optimism acts as an internal psychological resource that helps adolescents manage academic stress, particularly preventing depressive symptoms
