ABSTRACT

The issue of emotions in literary works reflects the complexity of human psychological experiences that are shaped not only by internal factors but also by social pressures and the background of the characters' lives. The short story "Nampan dari Surga" by Yusuf Idris becomes a relevant object of study in exploring the emotional dynamics of the main character, which are rife with inner conflict. This short story depicts the tension between hope, guilt, and repressed suffering, which intensely reflects a person's psychological reality in facing extreme situations. The theory used here is David Krech's theory of emotions, which distinguishes between pleasant emotions, unpleasant emotions, and mixed emotions.
This research method is a literary criticism study with a psychological approach. The main data source comes from the short story text "Nampan dari Surga," while the analysis technique is conducted descriptively qualitatively. By applying the theory of emotions according to David Krech, this research classifies the forms of emotions experienced by the main character, narrating much more. The analysis was conducted by paying attention to the narrative context, character dialogue, and symbolism that appears in the text. The research results show that the main character's emotions experience sharp fluctuations between hope and despair, largely triggered by traumatic experiences and the tension between personal desires and social environmental demands. Pleasant emotions appear in the form of hope and love, while unpleasant emotions are marked by anxiety, anger, and guilt. Mixed emotions appear when the character experiences a moral dilemma and struggles to understand themselves. This research concludes that psychological analysis in literature continues to be developed to understand the human side of fictional characters, and recommends understanding the complexity of emotions and the dynamics of human psyche in real life.

ABSTRAK

Persoalan emosi dalam karya sastra mencerminkan kompleksitas pengalaman psikologis manusia yang tidak hanya terbentuk oleh faktor internal, tetapi juga oleh tekanan sosial dan latar belakang kehidupan tokoh. Cerpen Nampan dari Surga karya Yusuf Idris menjadi objek kajian yang relevan dalam mengeksplorasi dinamika emosi tokoh utama yang sarat dengan konflik batin. Cerpen ini menggambarkan ketegangan antara harapan, rasa bersalah, dan penderitaan yang terpendam, yang secara intens mencerminkan realitas psikologis seseorang dalam menghadapi situasi ekstrem. Teori yang dipakai disini ialah teori emosi dari David Krech yang membedakan antara emosi menyenangkan, emosi tidak menyenangkan, dan emosi campur aduk
Metode penelitian ini merupakan studi kritik sastra dengan pendekatan psikologis. Sumber data utama berasal dari teks cerpen Nampan dari Surga, sedangkan teknik analisis dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Dengan menerapkan teori emosi menurut David Krech, penelitian ini mengklasifikasikan bentuk-bentuk emosi yang dialami tokoh utama, menarasikan hingga banyak lagi. Analisis dilakukan dengan memerhatikan konteks naratif, dialog tokoh, dan simbolisme yang muncul dalam teks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa emosi tokoh utama mengalami fluktuasi tajam antara harapan dan keputusasaan, yang sebagian besar dipicu oleh pengalaman traumatik serta ketegangan antara keinginan pribadi dan tuntutan lingkungan sosial. Emosi menyenangkan muncul dalam bentuk harapan dan cinta, sementara emosi tidak menyenangkan ditandai oleh kecemasan, kemarahan, dan rasa bersalah. Emosi campur aduk tampak saat tokoh mengalami dilema moral dan kesulitan dalam memahami dirinya sendiri. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan analisis psikologis dalam karya sastra terus dikembangkan untuk memahami sisi manusiawi dari karakter fiktif, dan merekomendasikan pemahaman terhadap kompleksitas emosi dan dinamika kejiwaan manusia dalam kehidupan nyata.
