Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Green tea is rich in polyphenols which act as antioxidants to combat free radicals caused by UV exposure that can trigger skin hyperpigmentation. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is a coconut oil processed hygienically without direct heat or chemical treatment, preserving its essential components. This study aims to investigate the effects of adding green tea leaf extract and VCO on the physical characteristics, stability, and SPF levels of sunscreen cream, both individually and in combination with TiO₂. The extract formulated into cream with VCO and TiO₂. The physical stability of the cream was evaluated through organoleptic tests, pH, cycling tests, and centrifugation tests, while the SPF value was determined using a UV-Vis DRS spectrophotometer. Molecular docking analysis was performed to assess the interactions between green tea polyphenols and enzyme. These findings indicate that green tea extract has the potential to be an effective natural active ingredient in sunscreen products capable of inhibiting hyperpigmentation caused by UV exposure.
