The use of taboo language and the situation when it used by the people in Patria Station Blitar

ABSTRACT

In every society, certain words are considered taboo and are generally avoided, especially in polite company. However, individuals often use taboo language to express their thoughts. Taboo is a way for a society to show disapproval of certain behaviors, whether due to supernatural beliefs or violations of moral codes. Patria Station in Blitar, a public transportation hub, frequently encounters the use of taboo language among its patrons.

This research aims to identify the types of taboo language used at Patria Station and the contexts in which it is employed. A descriptive-qualitative research design was used to gather data through observations and interviews. The subjects of the study were the instances of taboo language spoken by individuals at the station.

The analysis revealed several categories of taboo language, including: obscene words, ominous speech, excretion-related terms, and names of animals. Additionally, it was found that taboo language at Patria Station is used in contexts such as complaints, jokes, and expressions of anger.

This study is intended to contribute to the understanding of taboo language for the researcher, readers, and future researchers. It is hoped that future research will explore taboo language not only in terms of conversational functions but also in relation to attitudes and behaviors. Further studies are encouraged to include a broader range of speakers and addressees for a more comprehensive analysis.
