Abstract

ABSTRACT

Preacher uses languages to send her messages. Preach is one of the ways to communicate any topic about religious subjects especially about the way people to behave. In preach, the preacher should know the listener’s ages and social classes to communicate with them effectively. When the preacher says utterances, sometime the listeners do not understand directly but they need interpretation to know the types and ways of delivering messages. In these phenomena what the preacher uttered is full of messages or meanings. In delivering messages, the speaker usually uses a certain style of language to reach a particular purpose. It needs special methods and techniques. ٢fhe preacher should know those mentioned factors in order to be successful in presenting preach and to avoid misunderstanding in accepting the messages between what is intended by the preacherand interpreted by the listeners.

The purposes of this study are to find out the kinds of illocutionary acts and ways of performing speech acts used by Kharisma in speech (preach).

The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research design in the thesis entitled ،،A Pragmatic Study on Speech Acts Used by Kharisma in Speech (Preach)” To obtain the manageable and systematic data, the direct observations supported by using recording become the instrument. The researcher becomes the key instrument of this study.

After analyzing and discussing the data, the researcher finds the following results. Firstly, the illocutionary acts are assertives such as asserting, concluding, reporting, complaining, suggesting, boasting; directives contains ordering, commanding, requesting, advising, questioning; commisives for instance promising, vowing, offering; expressives such as thanking, congratulating, blaming; declarations such as naming. Secondly, the speech acts of the Kharisma’s preach arc performed in literal speech act, non-literal speech act, direct speech act and indirect speech acts.

The researcher hopes that this study will give scientific contribution to the future researchers who intend to investigate speech acts from another perspective. A future researcher can also conduct the study on speech acts on another media. On the other hand, the results of this study also help the listeners to understand preach easier on what the preacher says. For the preacher to be careful in delivering messages and using a certain style of language to reach a particular purposes in preach. In addition, the results of this study can be used by future researcher of speech acts especially speech acts in preach.
