A study on taboo expressions of javanese language used in Low Communities in Patang Puluhan Streets in the District of Wiro Brajan, Yogyakarta

ABSTRACT

The writer of this thesis is interested in analyzing the taboo expressions of Javanese language that is used by low communities in Patang Puluhan streets in the district of Wiro Brajan, Yogyakarta. She use the descriptive qualitative method.

The purpose of the study are to find out the taboo expressions and the reasons to use it to communicate to each other, and she describes the context of taboo expressions.

The instruments that are used are observation and interview. While, ؛ observation is conducted by taking field note and recording. Interview is used by the researcher in the form of unstructured interview.

The result of the study on taboo expressions of Javanese language used by low comminities in Patang Puluhan streets in the district of Wiro Brajan, Yogyakarta. The expressions deal with some expressions; name of animal, name of ghost, Name of immoral proffesion or jobs, name of certain things, name of food or drink, and also deal with etiquette; part of human body, personal expression, marriage life. The last taboo expressions deal with expressions of anger; activity of eating, activity of sleeping, sexual behavior. They use taboo expressions in the context of situation, such as; getting angry, feel offended, giving rein to unpleasant thing, and disappointment. The reasons of using taboo expressions are; expressing their anger, giving rein to emotion, stressing the meaning of the words, cursing someone.
