Abstract
ABSTRACT
Music contains of three elements, namely melody, rhythm and harmony. It to express our feeling such as feeling of love, happiness, sadness and affection influences the form on choice of lyric. Music and song are very important for learning language. By listening music, a person can leam about some aspects of language such as semantic and syntax. Semantic relates to the meaning of the word used in the song with syntax relates the sentence pattern used in the song. There are a lot of people in this world who like music very much Students, who like appreciating English songs, feel that learning English with song is more enjoyable compared with learning English poetry. Infact, some students find some difficulties in understanding the content of the song especially Anggun songs.
The purpose of this study is to describe the form syntactic structure on the sentences of Anggun songs. It focused on explaining the structure of modification, structures of prediction, structure of complementation, and structures of coordination. By studying grammar we know how the sentences are built up not only in song but also in the aspects of language.
This study is classified as descriptive research. The data of this study is the sentences of the four songs of Anggun. The source data of this study are the album of Anggun namely ،،chrysalis”. The instrument of this study is the researcher herself. The data collected by taking word, phrase and sentence of the songs with the title chrysalis, still reminds me, a prayer and forbidden love which considered as the most famous and familiar songs in Indonesia.
The finding shows that the sentence constructions of those Ailgguns songs can be simple sentences have more than one structure of modification, structures of prediction, structure of complementation, and structures of coordination.
Based on the analysis, it is concluded that most of English songs contain complete and unique sentences. The source of unique sentences maybe influenced by the composer’s intention to make the songs more interested. Moreover, the composers of these songs making English song have a commercial purpose. Hopefully, this study provides useful knowledge to improve the student ability in learning English
