A semantic analysis on some lyrics of Anggun songs in luminescence album

ABSTRACT

Language is the most means of communication, whether spoken or written language. By the language, we can understand what other people say. It means, communication becomes a part of human life. By the language, people also can express their ideas, mind, feeling, desire and emotion to another and get information from others, response phenomena, share an idea, etc. Due to this fact, we need a good understanding to know the implied meaning behind it. Kinds of meaning are also found in the lyrics of song.

According to the background, this research is conducted with the statement of the problem "what are the meaning are involved in Anggun’s song?" In analyzing this song, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. The data are in the form on script of the songs, the data are elected from the album 1’Luminescence".

This study uses descriptive qualitative method because the researcher would analyze and interpret the research object of Anggun song. The researcher found that there re three kinds of meaning which are involved in this song, they are lexical meaning, sentence and utterance meaning and discourse meaning. In lexical meaning, the use of synonym, antonym and hyponym are dominant. In sentential or utterance meaning, the use of deixis is dominant. In discoursial meaning, the use of conjtmction is dominant.

Based on the finding, the researcher suggest to the reader and the next researcher who want to make this study references can analyze another style and to be able to make more wonderful and complete the analysis.
