Abstract
INDONESIA:
Rambut jagung manis merupakan salah satu limbah tanaman jagung yang dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai antibakteri yang diperlukan tubuh untuk melawan bakteri patogen. Potensi antibakteri yang dimiliki rambut jagung manis disebabkan adanya senyawa kimia didalamnya. Ekstraksi senyawa kimia dalam rambut jagung manis dapat dilakukan dengan pelarut organik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak rambut jagung manis dari berbagai pelarut organik dan penentuan Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM). Ekstraksi rambut jagung manis dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol, etil asetat dan petroleum eter. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus dengan metode difusi cakram, dilanjutkan dengan pengujian Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM) pada konsentrasi 250; 125; 62,5; 31,25 dan 15, 625 mg/mL. Pengujian Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) dilakukan dengan metode dilusi cair sedangkan pengujian Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM) dilakukan dengan metode drop plate. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol rambut jagung manis dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus dengan luas zona hambat masing-masing 19,3 mm dan 13 mm; untuk ekstrak etil asetat 9,3 mm, dan 12,3 mm; sedangkan ekstrak petroleum eter 2,67 mm, dan tidak dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) ekstrak etanol rambut jagung manis pada konsentrasi 125 mg/mL dan Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM) pada konsentrasi 250 mg/mL.

Sweet corn silk is one of the maize plant wastes which can be used as an antibacterial needed to fight pathogenic bacteria. Antibacterial potential in sweet corn silk is the result of chemical compounds inside. The extraction of chemical compounds in sweet corn silk can be performed with organic solvents. The purpose of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of sweet corn silk extracts of various organic solvents and determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Extraction of sweet corn silk was performed with maceration method using ethanol, ethyl acetate and petroleum ether. Antibacterial activity test was carried out on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with the disc diffusion method, followed by Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) tests at concentration of 250; 125; 62.5; 31.25 and 15.625 mg/mL. Testing of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) was performed with liquid dilution method while testing the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was conducted with the drop plate method. The result showed that ethanol and ethyl acetate extract of sweet corn silk have antimicrobial activity against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and the diameter of bacteriostatic circle is 19.3 and 13 mm for ethanol extract, 9.3 and 12.3 mm for ethyl acetate extract, while the petroleum ether extract is also inhibited Escherichia coli and it’s diameter of bacteriostatic circle is 2.67 mm and has no antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus. Ethanol extract of sweet corn silk has the best antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) to Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is 125 mg/mL, while the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) is 250 mg/mL.
