Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is defined as the beautiful world which has its characteristic. The beautiful thing can be shown in the works of literature, literary work. As one example of literary work is novel. The readers will get the beautiful one with his or her own way in enjoying the novel. The beautifulness of literary work, especially novel is not separated from the structure of the novel itself, such as character, plot, setting and so on.
In this case, the researcher takes one of the works of literature; it is George’s Mother which is written by Stephen Crane. In this thesis, the researcher wants to apply Good and Evil theory as the approach of the analysis on novel George’s Mother. There are three statements of the problem. The first is what the forms of George’s immoralities described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother are. The second is what the causes of George immoralities described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother are. The third is what the effects of George’s immoralities on his mother and friends described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother are.
The objectives of the research are first to find out the forms of George immoralities described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother. Second to find out the causes of George immoralities described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother. Third is to find out the effects of George’s immoralities on his mother and friends described in Stephen Crane’s George’s Mother. The research observed by Immanuel Kant’s Good and Evil theory that is focused on the immorality of the main character such as trouble maker, alcoholism, arrogance, and disrespect to parents.
The result of this study is that the researcher finds some proves about the immoralities of George as the main character in novel. The researcher does not only find about the form of immorality which is done by George, but also the researcher finds the causes why George did immorality acts and also the effects of doing immoralities for himself and for his surroundings.
