Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is a picture of real life which describes many aspects of life and problem of life, sentence by sentence contain of moral message. Sociology of literature not only look at the facts or reality of literature as a mirror of social or reflection but put literature in the context of the relationship of buildings or structures and societal conditions with all its aspects.
The present research discusses the conditions outside Atticus character, and how they influence Atticus by applying with Marx’s theory of alienation. Alienation is a concept that refers to both a psychology condition found in individuals and a social condition that underlies and promotes it. This research focuses on Atticus using 4 types of alienation by Karl Marx theory. Namely, experiences the alienation of the objects produced, production proses, from himself and from society.
The second results regarding the effect felt by Atticus after being alienated are Effect powerlessness, meaninglessness, normlessness, isolation and self-estrangement. Everyone will feel estranged these things. To sum up, It can be said, alienation can happen to everyone. The process of such depictions exist within Atticus in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee.
This research could give theoretical and practical benefits. The theoretical benefits are expected to expand their repertoire of knowledge, especially in the field of literature, especially for readers and lovers of literature and reference materials in language
learning.
