Abstract
INDONESIA:
Generasi Z merupakan generasi yang lahir dengan rentang tahun 1995-2010. Pada periode Januari 2020, pengguna instagram di Indonesia mencapai 69,2 juta pengguna, para pengguna instagram di dominasi oleh rentang usia 18-24 tahun
sebanyak 25 juta dengan persentase 36-38%, sedanagkan untuk usia 25-34 tahun mendominasi dengan 21 juta pengguna dengan persentase 31-33%. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatahui pengaruh intensitas penggunaan media sosial instagram dan social comparison terhadap self esteem.
Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kausalitas dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subjek Penelitian ini adalah followers official akun @psikologi18uinmalikimlg dan @uinma.psi19. Jumlah subyek penelitian yaitu 279 responden dengan kriteris berusia 18-25 tahun dan merupakan pengguna aktif instagram. Pengambilan data menggunakan skala intensitas penggunaan media sosial instgram yang dikembangkan peneliti berdasar teori Del Bario (dalam Andarwati, 2016). Sedangkan skala social comparison yang dikembangkan oleh O’Brien et al. (2019) yaitu Upward and Downward Appereance Comparison Scale (UDACS) sesuai dengan teori dari Festinger (1954). Skala self esteem diadopsi dari Coopersmith (1967).
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh dari intensitas penggunaan media sosial instagram dan social comparison terhadap self esteem, baik secara
parsial maupun keseluruhan.
ENGLISH:
Generation Z is the generation born between 1995-2010. In the January 2020 period, Instagram users in Indonesia reached 69.2 million users, Instagram users were dominated by the 18-24 year age range of 25 million with a percentage of 36-38%, while those aged 25-34 dominated with 21 million users. with a percentage of 31-33%. This study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of the use of social media Instagram and social comparison on self-esteem.
This study uses a causality research design with a quantitative approach. The subjects of this research are followers of the official accounts
@psikologi18uinmalikimlg and @uinma.psi19. The number of research subjects is 279 respondents with criteria aged 18-25 years and are active users of Instagram. Data collection uses an intensity scale for using social media Instagram
which was developed by researchers based on Del Bario's theory (in Andarwati, 2016). While the social comparison scale developed by O'Brien et al. (2019), namely the Upward and Downward Appearance Comparison Scale (UDACS)
according to Festinger's (1954) theory. The self-esteem scale was adopted from Coopersmith (1967).
The results of this study indicate that there is an effect of the intensity of the use of social media Instagram and social comparison on self-esteem, both partially and completely.
