Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) is a disorder characterized by persistent respiratory distress and limited airflow due to exposure to harmful gas or particles which cause respiratory distress and/or alveolar disorders. There are 168 reported COPD cases in Karsa Husada Hospital, Batu in 2020. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between smoking and COPD degree of severity among COPD patients in Karsa Husada Hospital, Batu. The data is obtained through medical records, with a sample of 60 patients. The technique used to select the sample is total sampling. The data is analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The bivariate data analysis using chi-square and odds ratio tests found that there is no significant relationship between smoking, smoking degree, type of cigarette smoked, and COPD degree of severity, with a value of (OR 0,429; IK95% 0,123-1,495; p=0,178), (OR 1,600; IK95% 0,477-5,367; p=0,445), and (p value=0,414), respectively. While the multivariate data analysis found that smoking doesn’t have any significant effect on COPD degree of severity (OR 0,429; IK95% 0,429-1,495; p=0,184).
