Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Facial wash is the most effective and easy method to clean facial skin to prevent various skin problems such as acne. Facial wash able to clean dirt, sebum, and when formulated with antibacterial ingredients it will be able to solve bacterial problems on the skin. Antibacterial facial wash in the market today often use salicylic acid as the active ingredient. Although salicylic acid has anti-bacterial properties, it can cause irritation and contact dermatitis which can make acne problems worse. It is necessary to develop an antibacterial facial wash with herbal ingredients that do not irritate the skin. Facial wash with basil leaves ethanolic extract as an active compound is a good innovation because basil leaves etanolic extract contains antibacterial compounds, namely alkaloids, flavonoids and triterpenoids, which some of them have antibacterial activity to acne causing bacteries such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Escherichia coli. Basil extract was formulated into a facial wash with concentration of 10%, 12.5% and 15% then tested for physical haracteristics. And then the result being compared to the predetermined standards of liquid. The basil leaves ethanolic extract facial wash obtained in this study has a liquid texture, distinctive aroma, dark brown color, pH ranges from 6.57-7.17, has foam stability of 93.75-95.54 %, and a viscosity of 70.75-84.51 cPs but does not have good homogeneity, this causes the resulting facial wash to not meet the predetermined standards.
