Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
The development of biodegradable plastics is one of solution in overcoming damage that caused by plastic waste that occurs in the surroundings. In this study biodegradable plastic from LPDE-g-MA and banana starch with a variation of 99.5: 0.5; 99: 1; 98: 2; 97: 3; and 96: 4; (% v / v) were made. It was characterized using FTIR testing, tensile test, test swelling and bacteria test. Based on FTIR data, it indicated a shift of chemical interaction waves on CH2 functional groups. Other groups also formed hydroxide (OH), carbonyl (CO) and ester (COO). These functional groups affected degradable plastics. In the tensile test, the addition of LDPE-g-MA, starch and glycerol decreased tensile strength and elongation values of biodegradable plastic as a consequence of the carbon chain existence. Tensile strength of the forming plastic is satisfied with the national standards of biodegradable plastic. The swelling value of the plastic between LDPE-g-MA and starch (97:3 %v/v)was 77.65%. Biodegradable test with EM4 showed the addition of variation of starch and LDPE-g-MA increased the average number of colonies. This was caused by organic compound, C=O and C-O-C which formed biodegradable plastic.
