Abstract
INDONESIA:
Abu vulkanik hasil letusan gunung kelud mengandung silika yang berpontensi untuk dijadikan bahan baku sintesis zeolit X. Zeolit X merupakan jenis zeolit yang memiliki rasio molar SiO2/Al2O3 yang rendah. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui karakter zeolit X hasil sintesis dengan variasi suhu hidrotermal dan penambahan bibit (TEOS) sebanyak 1 %.
Sintesis zeolit X dilakukan menggunakan metode sol-gel dengan komposisi molar 4,5 Na2O: Al2O3: 3 SiO2: 315 H2O yang rasio SiO2/Al2O3 2 dan variasi suhu 75, 90, 100 oC serta penambahan TEOS (tetraethokxysilane) pada suhu terbaik. Karakterisasi dilakukan dengan analisis XRD dan FTIR. Analisis XRD untuk mengetahui kristalinitas, kemurnian zeolit dan ukuran kristal berdasarkan persamaan Debye Schererr. Analisis FTIR untuk mengetahui gugus fungsi zeolit.
Hasil karakterisasi XRD menghasilkan zeolit X dan zeolit A. Puncak zeolit A lebih sedikit seiring dengan bertambahnya suhu hidrotermal. Pada penambahan TEOS pada suhu 100 ºC menunjukkan terbentuknya banyak puncak zeolit dan lebih kristalin dibandingkan dengan tanpa penambahan. Namun, banyaknya puncak masih adanya campuran zeolit A. Ukuran kristal pada suhu 75, 90 dan 100 oC berturut-turut yaitu 122,19 nm; 48,97 nm; dan 164,22 nm serta 163,22 nm untuk penambahan TEOS. Hasil analisis FTIR menunjukan semua hasil sintesis zeolit memiliki gugus O-T-O dan cincin ganda D6R yang merupakan cincin ganda zeolit X.

Volcanic ash from mount Kelud’s eruption contain silica which has potent as raw material of zeolite X synthesis. Zeolite X is the kind of zeolite that has low molar ratio of SiO2/Al2O3. This research was aimed to know the characters of zeolite X obtained from synthesis by varying hydrothermal temperature and adding of 1% precursor (TEOS).
The synthesis was carried out using sol-gel method with molar composition of 4,5 Na2O: Al2O3: 3 SiO2: 315 H2O which has 2 of SiO2/Al2O3 ratio. The zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized at different temperatures of 75, 90, 100 °C and TEOS was added to the best temperature obtained. XRD and FTIR were used to characterize the zeolite. XRD result showed the purity and crystal size of zeolite based on Debye Schere equation while FTIR result showed the functional groups that zeolite has.
Characterization using XRD shows that the synthesis resulting zeolite X and zeolite A. Based on diffractogram, less peak of zeolite A formed as the increasing of hydrothermal temperature used. Addition of TEOS at 100 °C was found affecting to the formation of more zeolite peaks and more crystalline zeolite compared without addition of TEOS. However, there are still many peaks that indicating of zeolite A mixture. Crystal sizes obtained at 75, 90 dan 100 oC are 122,19 nm; 48,97 nm; dan 164,22 nm respectively and 163,22 nm for TEOS addition. FTIR spectra shows that all synthesized zeolites have O-T-O group and double ring D6R which belongs to zeolite X.
