Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Schiff base compound is a condensation product of a carbonyl compound (aldehyde/ketone) with a primary amine. Schiff base compounds 1-(4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidenamino)phenyl)-etanone can be synthesized from vanillin and p-aminoacetophenone with natural acid catalysts from lemon (Citrus limonium). Synthesis was carried out by grinding using a variation of the catalyst volume of lemon acid (Citrus limonium) 1.25; 1; 0.75; 0.5; 0.25; 0 mL; and a gradual process. The catalyst reaction (0 mL) was used as a control in this study. The results showed that the catalyst volume of 0.25 mL had the highest yield% of 93.96%. The resulting product has physical characteristics including: in the form of solids, yellow in color, and has a melting point ranging from 160.3-163.6 ℃. TLC results showed that 3 stains appeared on the synthesis product, one of which was yellow with an Rf value of 0.92 which was thought to be a target compound. The FTIR spectra showed the presence of a typical absorption of the target compound namely -C=N at 1584 cm-1. Characterization of the synthesis product of 0.25 mL volume variation using KG-SM shows the emergence of a peak at a retention time of 28,309 minutes with molecular ions at m / z value of 269.1 which corresponds to the molecular weight of target compounds 1-(4-(4-hydroxy-3-metoksibenzilidenamino) phenyl)-anonene. The characterization of the synthesis product at a volume of 0.25 mL using 1HNMR also showed the appearance of a signal δ around 8.4631 ppm.
