Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Zeolite is one of the natural materials that can be utilized as a molecular filter, absorbent / adsorbent, and catalyst. However, there is a need for activation to increase the activity of natural zeolites. Natural zeolite was activated using 2 M NaCl solution and calcined at 450 ˚C for 3 hours. This study aims to determine the change in character, surface area and basicity of the influence of variations in KOH development of 10% and 20% on zeolite activated NaCl. The development of 10% and 20% KOH in NaCl-activated zeolite was successfully synthesized using the sonication method. The synthesized material is then characterized using the X-ray Diffraction (XRD) instrument, N2 adsorption, and Temperature Progammed Desorption (CO2-TPD). The development of KOH on activated zeolite was identified by character changes with the appearance of the KCl phase based on characterization using XRD. Measurement of surface area using N2 adsorption obtained surface area decreases by 44.6 m2/g; 9,727 m2/g; 5,432 m2/g. The addition of KOH in NaCl-activated zeolite can cause a decrease in the value of total alkalinity based on analysis using CO2-TPD.
