Abstract
INDONESIA:
Minyak atsiri bunga cengkeh (MABC) mengandung eugenol yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan. MABC diformulasi menjadi emulgel karena emulgel dapat menghantarkan zat aktif yang bersifat hidrofobik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik fisik-kimia sediaan emulgel MABC dan aktivitas antioksidan MABC sebelum dan sesudah diformulasi menjadi sediaan emulgel. Dibuat 4 formula emulgel MABC. Formula 1 mengandung 5% MABC, formula 2 mengandung 10% MABC, formula 3 mengandung 15% MABC dan formula 4 mengandung 20% MABC. Uji karakteristik fisik meliputi uji organoleptis (warna, bau dan bentuk) dan uji akseptabilitas (kemudahan saaat penggunaan, homogenitas, sensasi yang ditimbulkan dan kelarutan saat pencucian). Uji kimia meliputi uji pH, viskositas, daya sebar dan daya lekat. Uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH (1,1-Difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, emulgel MABC berwarna putih kekuningan, berbau khas MABC dan berbentuk gel agak kental. Emulgel juga menunjukkan kemudahan saat penggunaan, homogen, memiliki sensasi dingin dan memiliki kelarutan yang baik saat pencucian. Emulgel memiliki pH yang sesuai dengan pH kulit yaitu 4,5-6,5; viskositas < 6000 cP sehingga tidak masuk dalam rentang viskositas yang dipersyaratkan. Emulgel konsentrasi 5% memiliki daya sebar dan daya lekat yang baik yaitu 5,46 cm dan 8,83 detik. MABC sebelum dan sesudah diformulasi memberikan aktivitas antioksidan yang ditunjukkan dengan nilai IC50. Emulgel dengan konsentrasi MABC 20% memiliki aktivitas antioksidan paling tinggi dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 47, 22 ppm.

Clove bud essential oil contains eugenol which plays role as antioxidant. MABC is formulated as emulgel due to its ability to deliver hydrophobic active ingredient. The aim of this study was to determine the physical and chemical characteristic of MABC emulgel. Four MABC emulgel formulas were formulated, which each of them contained 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% MABC. The formula was tested by conducting physical characteristic test and chemical characteristic test. Physical characteristic test included organoleptic test (odor, smell, and form) and acceptability test (ease of use, homogeneity, sensation, and solubility during washing). Chemical characteristic test included pH, viscosity, spread ability, and adhesiveness. In order to check antioxidant activity, DPPH method (1,1-Difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) was used. This study showed that MABC emulgel had white yellowish color, had MABC smell, and had rather thick gel form. Emulgel also found to be easy to use, homogeny, had cold sensation, and had good solubility during washing. Emulgel had similar pH to skin pH (4.5-6.5) and its viscosity was less than 6000 cP, which means it did not meet the standard range. Emulgel in concentration 5% had good spread ability 5,46 cm and good adhesiveness 8,83 second. Antioxidant activity of MABC is indicated by IC50 value. Emulgel formula with concentration of MABC 20% had highest antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 47.22 ppm.
