Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Procyclicality in the banking industry is a credit channel that has a two-sided impact. When the economy is in a condition of expansion, it will accelerate economic growth. In other conditions, procyclicality can slow down economic growth when the economy is in a state of contraction. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the BI Rate, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Third Party Funds (TPF), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), and Non-Performing Finance (NPF) on the behavior of the procyclicality of Sharia banking.
This study used a quantitative method using the secondary data of the annual report on Indonesian Islamic banks in the period 2013-2017. The samples studied were 11 Islamic Commercial Banks which were determined through Purposive Sampling technique. The data analysis implemented was Panel Regression analysis processed in the Eviews program.
The results revealed that the BI Rate, Third Party Funds (TPF) and the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) had positive coefficients, meanwhile, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Non-Performing Finance (NPF) had negative coefficients. In addition, all variables obtained a significance value (p-value) < 5 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the BI Rate, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Third Party Funds (TPF), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), and Non-Performing Finance (NPF) had a significant effect on the procyclicality of commercial sharia banking. The influence of all independent variables was 67.22%.
