Abstract

INDONESIA:

Kandungan selulosa yang tinggi pada batang jagung berpotensi dijadikan komposisi pembuatan beads alginat-selulosa xantat (BACX). Alginat dan selulosa merupakan polimer biodegradable, renewable dan non-meltable yang memiliki aplikasi luas di berbagai sektor industri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh BACX dengan variasi porogen CaCO3 0 (tanpa porogen); 0,5; 1; dan 1,5 gram berdasarkan daya swelling dan porositas. BACX dikarakterisasi menggunakan Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), uji swelling, porositas, dan Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). Nilai swelling tertinggi didapatkan pada BACX CaCO3 1,5 gram yakni 127,55%, sedangkan nilai porositas tertinggi didapatkan pada BACX tanpa porogen yakni 61,9%. Data FTIR BACX menunjukkan munculnya bilangan gelombang pada daerah 800 cm-1 yang mengindikasikan adanya gugus Zn-O. Data SEM-EDX BACX tanpa porogen menunjukkan permukaan kasar dan berongga, sedangkan permukaan BACX CaCO3 1,5 gram halus dan ada sedikit rongga.

ENGLISH:

The high content of cellulose in corn stalks have potential to be used as a composition for making alginate-cellulose xanthate beads (BACX). Alginate and cellulose are biodegradable, renewable and non-meltable polymers that have wide applications in various industrial sectors. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of BACX with porogen variation CaCO3 0 gram (without porogen); 0,5; 1; and 1,5 gram based on swelling and porosity. BACX was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), swelling test, porosity, and Scanning Electron Microscopes-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). The highest swelling value was obtained at BACX CaCO3 1.5 gram such as 127,55%, while the highest porosity value was obtained at BACX without porogen such as 61,9%. The data FTIR of BACX showed that wave numbers in the area of 800 cm-1 which indicated the presence of Zn-O groups. The data SEM-EDX of BACX without porogen shows a rough and hollow surface, while the BACX CaCO3 1,5 gram surface is smooth and there are few hollow.
