The plot comparison between the novel and film of the hunt for red October: Ecranisation study

Ekranisasi dapat diterapkan untuk menganalisis pola plot yang berbeda dalam novel dan film, karena penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perbandingan plot dalam The Hunt for Red October, yang mengalami perubahan plot terkait antara novel dan film. Peneliti menggunakan teori ekranisasi Erneste untuk menganalisis perbedaan antara novel dan film The Hunt for Red October. Data diambil dari novel, meliputi kalimat dan dialog, sedangkan film terdiri dari visual dan dialog antar tokoh. Studi tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ekranisasi, termasuk pengurangan, penambahan, dan variasi perubahan atau modifikasi, terjadi di dalamnya. Melalui proses ekranisasi juga ditemukan bahwa buku dan film tersebut memuat lima struktur plot: (1) eksposisi, (2) aksi yang memuncak, (3) klimaks, (4) aksi yang menurun, dan (5) resolusi. Eksposisi terjadi saat Red October berlayar menuju Amerika Serikat, sedangkan aksi yang memuncak terjadi ketika Jack Ryan membuktikan teorinya tentang pembelotan kapten Red October. Klimaks terjadi ketika Red October dikejar oleh V. K. Konovalov dan menghadapi sabotase internal. Ecranisation can be applied to analyze the different patterns of plot in novels and films, as this research aims to examine plot comparison in the novel and film The Hunt for Red October, which experiences changes in plot related between the novel and the film. The researcher used Erneste's ecranisation theory to analyze the differences between the novel and the movie The Hunt for Red October. The data was obtained from the novel, including sentences and dialogue, while the film consists of visuals and dialogue between characters. This study shows that ecranisation, including reduction, addition, and variation of changes or modifications, occurs in it. Through ecranisation process, this reseach also found that the book and movie contain five plot structures: (1) exposition, (2) rising action, (3) climax, (4) falling action, (5) resolution. The exposition takes place as the Red October sets sail for the United States, while the rising action occurs when Jack Ryan proves his theory about the Red October’s captain defecting. The climax occurs when the Red October is pursued by V. K. Konovalov and faces internal sabotage. The falling action occurs when the saboteur is killed inside Red October, while the resolution occurs when Red October reaches the United States. The research highlights the importance of understanding plot comparison in both novels and films to better understand the difference. The results also reveal that reduction and modification was used between the novel and the film.
