Abstract

ABSTRACT

Literature is one of the most creative and universal means of communication, reflecting the emotions, spirit, and intellectual concerns of mankind. It is divided into three main branches: prose, drama, and poetry. Poetry, in particular, is a form of literary work that consists of a collection of poems, each with its own unique aspects and complexities. Emha Ainun Najib’s poetry collection, *Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya, Tahajjud Cinta Seorang Hamba* (1990), represents a significant body of work that reflects various facets of human life over the years, encompassing both religious and social phenomena.

This study aims to analyze the grand theme and messages of Najib's poetry collection. The research questions addressed are: (1) What is the grand theme of Emha Ainun Najib's *Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya, Tahajjud Cinta Seorang Hamba*? and (2) How are the messages expressed in this collection? The focus of this study is on uncovering and describing the grand theme and the messages contained within Najib's poems.

This descriptive qualitative research involves an in-depth analysis of the themes and messages within the collection. The primary instrument is the researcher, who also references additional data from other works by Emha Ainun Najib and relevant sources from the internet, including [www.caknun.com](http://www.caknun.com).

The findings reveal that the grand theme of *Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya, Tahajjud Cinta Seorang Hamba* is "The Beauty, Love, and Affection of God and Other Human Beings." The collection conveys messages about social issues, religious restlessness, and the poet's longing for God, alongside various social aspects presented ethically, tropically, conceptually, and critically.

This study contributes to literature by providing insights into the grand theme and messages of Najib’s poetry. It is hoped that future researchers will explore similar topics with different subjects to further enrich the understanding of literary works.
