Abstract

ABSTRACT

Foreign language acquisition is used to denote a language acquired in an environment where it is normally not in use and which, when acquired, is used by the learner in routine situations. As we know, English is considered a foreign language acquisition in our country. If every kindergarten school offers English to be learned by children, it will be easier for them to learn a foreign language in elementary school. They will be able to continue learning the language because they had started it in kindergarten.

This research is about the application of behaviorism theory in foreign language acquisition at Qurrota A'yun Play Group Malang. The research problem is formulated with the question: How is behaviorism theory applied in foreign language acquisition at Qurrota A’yun Play Group Malang? This research uses a descriptive qualitative method because the data are in the form of words or utterances related to behaviorism theory. The researcher is the main instrument for collecting the data.

The discussion in this research uses Skinner's behaviorism theory for foreign language acquisition. After the researcher collected the data from the data source, the data were analyzed based on the theory. As Skinner states, language acquisition involves a set of stimulus, response, and reinforcement. In this study, the responses collected were mostly in the form of verbal responses, though there were also non-verbal responses.

The researcher hopes that this study can provide new contributions to readers, especially students interested in foreign language acquisition. Furthermore, it is hoped that this research can inspire future researchers to study foreign language acquisition using other theories.
