Psychological aspects of the main character of Fern Michaels "All She Can Be"

ABSTRACT

The study is stimulated by an assumption that novel is one form of literary works to reflect human life by portraying the soul and the inner part of the main characters. Psychology has relation with literature because a psychology is needed to characterization of the novel and also studies of human behavior; therefore between literature and psychology have close relationship. The purpose of the study is to find out the psychological aspects of Rita as the main character in this novel.

This study psychological aspect of the main character of Fem Michaels “All She Can Be”. So this study uses qualitative research. The qualitative research design is used to interpret data tend to be in the form of words and sources

This study is considered descriptive, Ary stated that descriptive studies are designed to obtain information concerning status of phenomena and they are directed toward determining the nature of a situation as exists at the time of the study. The approach employed is psychological approach that is to find out the psychological aspects of the main character.

The source of data of this research is the original novel “All She Can Be” By Fem Michaels and the data are quoted from selected of the novel, which are directly concerned with the purposes, the scope, and the limitation of the study. The data of this study are obtained three steps. First, identifying and recording the data based on the plot on the novel “All She Can Be”. Second, selecting the data based on the criteria of the psychological problem of the main character that related to personality disorder, anxiety and adjustment from the plot of the novel. Third, arranging the data based on the problem of the study.

After obtaining the data form the novel “All She Can Be” By Fem Michaels, the researcher then analyzed the data. First, Categorizing the data is accordance with psychological aspects, second, discussing and interpreting the data from each categorize and the last discussing the whole data sources and continued by making conclusion from the result of analyzing to find out how the psychological aspects of the main character of Fem Michaels “All She Can Be”.

There are there psychological aspects of the main character are found in this novel. First, personality disorder that is found at the exposition, complication, climax and in the resolution of the story. Second, anxiety that found in the exposition of the story, complication of the story, climax of the story and in the resolution of the story. Third, adjustment that found in the exposition of the story, complication, climax and resolution of the story.
