ABSTRACT

Fantasy or imaginary fiction stories usually contain a magical wonder and supernatural element. It shows a special story, explaining the extraordinary journey of someone. This study aims to analyze the extraordinary journey of Jason the main character in Beyonders: A World Without Heroes who travels to find words to kill Maldor and find his way home. This study also aims to shows that the story in the modern era still has a hero story that is in accordance with the theory of hero`s journey. This research uses literary criticism, which also uses hero's journey theory to engage with the research questions.

The research data was taken from words, phrases and sentences in the Beyonders: A World Without Heroes novel published in 2011 by Aladdin publisher in New York. Researchers collect data by identifying and classifying relevant citations from the novel. The researcher analyzes the data by explaining or describing quotations based on the hero`s journey theory from Joseph Campbell.

The objective of the study is to explain the stages of hero`s journey experienced by Jason in Beyonders: A World Without Heroes and also how Jason overcome the difficulties he experienced. In this case the researchers used the theory of the hero`s journey from Joseph Campbell. There are three main parts in a hero's journey theory, namely: Departure a. The Call to Adventure, b. Refusal of the Call, c. Supernatural Aid, d. The Crossing of the First Threshold, e. The Belly of the Whale. The beginning of the journey, a. The Road of Trials, b. The Meeting of the Goddess, c. Woman as Temptress, d. Atonement with the Father, e. Apotheosis, f. The Ultimate Boon. Back from the trip, a. The Refusal of the Return, b. The Magic Flight, c. Rescue from Without, d. The Crossing of the Return of Threshold, e. Master of Two Worlds, f. Freedom to Live.

The results of this study concluded that Jason was a very tough hero. He succeeded in completing 17 stages of hero`s journey theory successfully only in his journey the stage of Rescue from Without appeared first before the Refusal of the Return. Jason is also a patient, brave and optimistic person as evidenced when Jason faces difficulties on his journey.

Cerita fantasi atau imagenatif fiksi biasanya mengandung keajaiban magis dan elemen supranatural. Itu memperlihatkan cerita yan spesial, menjelaskan tentang perjalanan luar biasa dari seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa perjalanan luarbiasa dari Jason tokoh utama dalam Beyonders: A World Without Heroes yang melakukan perjalanan mencari kata untuk membunuh Maldor dan menemukan jalan pulang. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran bahwa cerita di era modern pada saat ini masih memiliki kisah pahlawan yang sesuai dengan teori hero`s journey. Penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian dengan menggunakan kritik sastra, yang juga mrnggunakan hero`s journey teori untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian.

Data penelitian diambil dari kata-kata, frasa, dan kalimat di dalam novel Beyonders: A World Without Heroes yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2011 oleh penerbit Aladdin di New York. Peneliti mengumpullkan data dengan cara mengidentifikasi dan mengklasifikasi kutipan yang relevan dari novel. Peneliti menganalisa data dengan menjelaskan atau mendeskripsikan kutipan berdasarkan teori perjalanan seorang pahlawan dari Joseph Campbell.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan tentang tahapan dari Perjalanan seorang pahlawan yang dilalui oleh Jason dalam Beyonders: A World Without Heroes dan juga bagaimana Jason menghadapi kesulitan yang ia alami. Dalam hal ini peneliti menggunakan teori perjalanan seorang pahlawan dari Joseph Campbell. Terdapat tiga bagian utama dalam teori perjalanan seorang pahlawan yaitu: Keberangkatan a. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Jason adalah seorang pahlwan yang sangat tangguh. Ia berhasil menyelesaikan 17 tahapan dari teori perjalanan seorang pahlawan dengan sukses hanya saja dalam perjalananya tahap Rescue from Without muncul terlebih dahulu sebelum Refusal of the Return. Jason juga adalah seorang yang sabar, tegar dan optimis ini dibuktikan saat Jason menghadapi kesulitan dalam perjalanannya.
