Abstract
ENGLISH:
This research purposes to find psychopathy character on Dave’s Mother in the novel A Child Called It. This novel tells about child abuse on her children. Dave’s Mother is a character in the novel who always abuse her child, Dave and many behaviors that cause harm to other people. So, the researcher wants to analyze psychopathy on Dave’s Mother. In finding psychopathy character on Dave’s Mother, the researcher has two ways, that are 1) finding the causes of psychopathy on Dave’s Mother in the novel A Child Called It and 2) finding the effects of psychopathy on Dave’s Mother in the novel A Child Called It.
This research is literary criticism. The researcher uses psychoanalytic literary criticism in analyzing the data. It is analyzing and interpreting the literary work. The object of this research is Novel A Child Called It by David James Palzer. The researcher uses psychology approach that is psychopathy from Robert D. Hare who explains about 20 psychopath characters and Stephan Verstappen theory about the effect of psychopathy.
From this research, the researcher finds many findings. The first, the causes of psychopathy on Dave’s Mother are brain function damage and social environment. It caused that Dave’s Mother has problems, there are controling emotion on her brain and the relation within her family is bad. The second is the effects of psychopathy on Dave’s Mother have 7 from 20 traits characteristic of psychophaty. there are Callous and Lack Of Empathy, Impulsive, Criminal Versatility, Superficial Charm, Poor Behavior Control, Irresponsible and Pathological Lying or Manipulative
INDONESIA:
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan karakter psikopat pada ibunya dave di dalam novel A Child Called It. Novel ini menceritakan penyiksaan anak terhadap anak-anak dari ibunya Dave. Ibunya Dave adalah karakter dalam novel yang selalu melakukan penyiksaan terhadap anaknya, dan banyak prilaku yang merugikan orang-orang lain. Sehingga, peneliti ingin menganalisis psikopat pada ibunya Dave. Dalam menemukan karakter psikopat pada ibunya Dave, peneliti mempunyai 2 cara yaitu 1) menemukan penyebab psikopat pada ibunya Dave dalam novel A Child Called It dan 2) menemukan akibat psikopat pada ibunya Dave di dalam novel A Child Called It.
Penelitian ini adalah kritik sastra. Peneliti menggunakan psikologi kritik sastra dalam menganalisa. Penelitian ini lebih kepada analisis dan interpretasi pada karya sastra. Objek dari penelitian adalah novel A Child Called It karya David James Palzer. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan psikologi terutama psikopat dari Robert D. Hare yang menjelaskan 20 karakter psikopat dan teori Stephan Verstappen tentang akibat psikopat.
Dari penelitian ini. peneliti menemukan banyak penemuan pada penelitian ini. Pertama, penyebab psikopat pada ibunya Dave yaitu gangguan otak konslet dan sosial dan lingkungan. Itu di sebabkan bahwa ibunya Dave mempunyai permasalahan yaitu pengontrol emosi pada bagian otak dan hubungan antara keluarga yang buruk. Kedua, akibat psikopat pada ibunya Dave mempunyai 7 dari 20 karakter psikopat yaitu kurang empati atau tidak mempunyai perasaan, impulsif, kriminal, mempesona, prilaku jelek, tidak bertanggung jawab, manipulasi atau berbohong.
