Abstract
INDONESIA:
Berdasarkan variabel, peneliti menggunakan dua skala adaptasi yakni Ways of Coping Questionnaire dan Self Acceptance Scale for Persons with Early Blindness.
ENGLISH:
Coping strategies is individual effort to manage the demands of the situation faced by mental and behavioral responses. Deaf people has experienced a difficult situation due to their hearing disability such as difficulty communicating and understanding oral information. Deaf people doing specific actions to make balance themselves and the environment in a problem. In theory, the people doing specific action to solve the problem with two type. The type are problem focused coping (oriented respond to the their problem) and emotion focused coping (oriented respond to their emotion).
Hearing impairments are inherent in a part of deaf people so that the process of self-assessment is important. The long process of self-assessment including self-acceptance. This research used a quantitative approach with the dependent and independent variable. Coping strategy as dependent variable and self-acceptance as independent variable. The sample for research was 50 subjects as deaf people. Based on the variables, the researchers used two scale adaptation. The scale consists of the Ways of Coping Questionnaire and Self-Acceptance Scale for Persons with Early Blindness. Analysis was conducted by product moment correlation and description analysis.
The results showed that there is a relationship between self-acceptance with coping strategies based on two type such as problem focused coping and emotion focused coping. Self-acceptance relationship with problem focused showed that correlation score at 0.275 (sig. 0.05) and emotion focused at 0.654 (sig. 0.05). Both are correlated, but the correlation is stronger tend to use emotion focused than problem focused associated with self-acceptance. The results of the description analysis on deaf people showed that 72% self-acceptance at medium category and 68% deaf people choose problem focused for solve their problem.
