Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Introduction: DMBA is a carcinogenic compound that can cause liver damage through oxidative stress and inflammatory mechanisms. White chrysanthemum leaves (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium) contain active compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and polysaccharides which have potential as hepatoprotective agents. Objective: To determine the effect of white chrysanthemum leaf extract on liver histopathological features in DMBA-induced rats. Method: This laboratory experimental study used rats divided into negative control, positive control, and treatment groups receiving white chrysanthemum leaf extract doses of 50 mg/kgBW, 100 mg/kgBW, and 200 mg/kgBW. Observations were carried out on liver histopathological features including normal hepatocytes, parenchymatous degeneration, hydropic degeneration, and necrosis. Results: Administration of white chrysanthemum leaf extract at doses of 50 mg/kgBW and 100 mg/kgBW showed significant improvement in liver histopathological features compared to the positive control group, characterized by decreased hepatocyte degeneration and necrosis as well as increased numbers of normal hepatocytes. Meanwhile, the 200 mg/kgBW dose showed no significant difference compared to the positive control group. Conclusion: White chrysanthemum leaf extract (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium) has hepatoprotective effects against liver damage induced by DMBA, with optimal doses at 50 mg/kgBW and 100 mg/kgBW.
