Abstract
INDONESIA:
Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tiga skala terstansar yakni, skala Emotional Quotient Inventory Model bar-on (α = 0.708), Conflict In Adolescents Dating Relatoinship Inventory Short From adaptasi wolfe (α 0.855) dan skala Relationship Satisfaction adaptasi hendrik (α 0.729).
ENGLISH:
Marriage among late adolescents remains a widespread phenomenon in Indonesia and poses a serious challenge, one of which is violent behavior. Data from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) in 2025 recorded 376,529 cases of gender-based violence, with the majority of female victims falling within the 18–24 age group. On the other hand, underdeveloped emotional intelligence often serves as a factor in conflicts that lead to acts of violence and negatively impact the quality and satisfaction of the
relationship. Although many studies have linked this to other factors, few have simultaneously examined how emotional intelligence and dating violence influence relationship satisfaction among couples who married in their late teens; thus, this research is important to conduct
This study employed a quantitative approach using a multiple linear regression design. A total of 231 late adolescents aged 17–23 who were married and had experienced marital violence were selected as the sample for this study through purposive sampling. Data were collected using three standardized scales, namely the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (α = 0.708), the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory Short Form adapted by Wolfe (α = 0.855), and the Relationship Satisfaction Scale adapted by Hendrik (α = 0.729). Data analysis was conducted using JAMOVI for validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, and hypothesis testing.
The results of the study indicate that the majority of respondents had low emotional intelligence (196 individuals), experienced dating violence (166 individuals, predominantly women), and reported moderate relationship satisfaction (152 individuals). Partially, emotional intelligence was found to have a positive and significant effect on relationship satisfaction, meaning that the higher a person’s ability to manage and understand emotions, the higher their relationship satisfaction. Conversely, dating violence has a negative and significant effect; the
higher the level of violent behavior, the lower the satisfaction felt by the couple. Simultaneously, these two variables together contribute 27.2% to relationship satisfaction, while the remaining 72.8% is influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study, such as religiosity, economic conditions, and the ability to forgive. These findings confirm that building emotional intelligence from an early age and creating a marriage free from violence are fundamental to achieving healthy relationship satisfaction.
