Abstract

INDONESIA:

Penurunan viabilitas biji selama penyimpanan merupakan fenomena yang umum terjadi pada setiap biji. Penurunan viabilitas tidak terjadi secara serentak dalam satu kemasan biji yang disimpan, tetapi secara berangsur-angsur dalam periode simpan tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh posisi biji pada tongkol dan suhu penyimpanan terhadap viabilitas biji jagung (Zea mays L.) pada berbagai umur simpan.

Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 3 (tiga) faktor. Faktor pertama adalah posisi biji pada tongkol jagung yaitu ujung, tengah, dan pangkal tongkol. Faktor kedua adalah suhu penyimpanan yaitu suhu kamar (± 23-25oC), 3 oC, dan 0 oC. Faktor ketiga adalah umur simpan biji yaitu 0, 4, dan 8 bulan penyimpanan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan teknik ANAVA tiga jalur dan jika ada perbedaan maka diuji lanjut dengan BNT taraf signifikan 5%.

Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan posisi biji pada tongkol jagung terhadap viabilitas biji bagian tengah memiliki viabilitas tertinggi. Perlakuan suhu penyimpanan terhadap viabilitas biji jagung penyimpanan pada suhu 0 0C memiliki viabilitas tertinggi. Perlakuan lama penyimpanan biji terhadap viabilitas biji bahwa biji yang disimpan 0 bulan memiliki viabilitas tertinggi. Sedangkan antara posisi biji, suhu penyimpanan dan umur simpan biji berpengaruh terhadap viabilitas biji jagung, biji bagian ujung tongkol dengan penyimpanan suhu kamar (±23-25oC) selama 8 bulan memiliki viabilitas terendah.

ENGLISH:

Decrease in seed viability during storage is a common phenomenon that occurs in any type of seeds within a certain time. Decrease in viability did not occur simultaneously in one package saved seed, but gradually within a certain period of savingThis research aims to examine the effect of seed position on the cob and storage temperature on Seed Corna (Zea mays L.) Viability in variety Age Storage.

Design of the research use Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) 3 (three) factors with three treatment. The first factor is seeds position on the tip, middle and base of the corn cob. The second factor is storage temperature with room temperature, 3 oC and 0 oC. The third factor is save life of seed is 0 months of storage, 4 months of storage, and 8 months of storage. Data analyzed with analysis of variance technique (ANOVA) three lines and if there is a difference between treatments then analysis with Least Significant Difference test (LSD) with a significance level of 5%.

The analysis shows that there is an influence seeds position on the cob, temperature and age storage on seeds viability of corn (Zea mays L.). Treatment of seed position on the viability of the seed corn cobs indicate that the center has the highest average viability. Storage temperature of seed treatment on seed viability of corn showed that storage at 0 oC has an average value of the highest viability. Treatment of seed storage time on the viability of corn seeds showed that seed stored 0 months had the highest average compared seed viability. As for the interaction between seed position on the cob, storage temperature and shelf life affect the viability of the seed corn seed that shows the variable seed germination simultaneity. Seed corn cob by the end of storage at room temperature for 8 months had the lowest viability.
