Transitivity analysis of text to image prompts shared in an Indonesian AI Facebook Community

This SFG-based text research aims to analyse the configuration and distribution of transitivity in the text of the text-to-image prompt using the theory of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) M.A.K. Halliday. The data studied consisted of 25 text prompts taken from an Indonesian AI Facebook Community during the period September to December 2025. This analysis focuses entirely on the text aspects specifically the types of processes and participants and deliberately does not address the visual elements or the quality of the resulting images. The results of the analysis show that the type of material and relational processes are the most dominant structures in the data. This analysis identified a total of 270 transitivity processes, with material processes as the most dominant structure with 206 occurrences, followed by relational processes with 57 occurrences. In contrast, existential and mental processes are found in very minimal quantities. These findings prove that prompt texts place much more emphasis on physical actions, camera technical settings, and descriptions of the surrounding environment compared to psychological processes. Ultimately, the language pattern reflects how the configuration of the user's chosen text structure serves to instruct the AI engine in creating images according to the constraints of the data being studied.

Penelitian teks berbasis SFG ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konfigurasi dan distribusi transitivitas dalam teks prompt yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan gambar menggunakan teori Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) M.A.K. Halliday. Data yang diteliti terdiri dari 25 prompt teks yang diambil dari Komunitas Facebook AI Indonesia selama periode September hingga Desember 2025. Analisis ini berfokus sepenuhnya pada aspek teks, khususnya jenis proses dan partisipan, dan penelitian ini tidak membahas elemen visual atau kualitas gambar yang dihasilkan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa jenis proses material dan relasional merupakan struktur yang paling dominan dalam data. Analisis ini mengidentifikasi total 270 proses transitivitas, dengan proses material sebagai struktur paling dominan dengan 206 kemunculan, diikuti oleh proses relasional dengan 57 kemunculan. Sebaliknya, proses eksistensial dan mental ditemukan dalam jumlah yang sangat minim. Temuan ini membuktikan bahwa teks prompt lebih menekankan pada tindakan fisik, pengaturan teknis kamera, dan deskripsi lingkungan sekitar dibandingkan dengan proses psikologis.
