Inside Out Public Library: Lumajang Learning Hub with a Human Centered Design Approach

Penurunan kunjungan Perpustakaan Umum Kabupaten Lumajang sebesar 48,75% dari tahun 2023 ke 2024 mengindikasikan bahwa bangunan perpustakaan yang ada tidak lagi relevan dengan kebutuhan masyarakat saat ini. Kondisi ini diperparah oleh Indeks Pembangunan Literasi Masyarakat (IPLM) Lumajang yang berada di bawah rata-rata Jawa Timur dan nasional, keterbatasan ruang fisik bangunan bekas sekolah yang tidak ramah disabilitas, serta kerentanan geografis Lumajang terhadap erupsi Gunung Semeru yang menuntut adanya literasi kebencanaan. Perancangan ini bertujuan mentransformasi perpustakaan konvensional menjadi Learning-Hub multifungsi melalui pendekatan Human-Centered Design (HCD) yang diintegrasikan dengan nilai-nilai Islam dari QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 185 dan QS. Al-Mujadilah (58): 11. Empat prinsip HCD : empathy, adaptable, inclusive, dan sustainability & wellbeing, diterjemahkan ke dalam konsep "The Living Pages", yang terdiri atas tiga strategi: breathing sebagai keterbukaan visual dan sosial antara ruang dalam dan luar; layering sebagai pengalaman ruang bertahap menyerupai proses membaca halaman buku; dan growing sebagai fleksibilitas ruang yang adaptif terhadap perubahan kebutuhan pengguna. Hasil rancangan berupa bangunan dengan zonasi vertikal berdasarkan tingkat kebisingan, courtyard sebagai elemen penghubung sirkulasi dan ventilasi alami, plaza multi-akses sebagai ruang transisi kota-bangunan, serta galeri edukasi mitigasi bencana sebagai respons terhadap konteks kebencanaan lokal. Perancangan ini diharapkan menjadi tawaran arsitektural bagi revitalisasi perpustakaan publik yang lebih inklusif, adaptif, dan relevan dengan dinamika kebutuhan masyarakat Lumajang.

The 48.75% decline in visitors to the Lumajang Regency Public Library from 2023 to 2024 indicates that the existing library building no longer responds to the community's current needs. This condition is compounded by Lumajang's Community Literacy Development Index (IPLM), which falls below the East Java and national averages, the physical limitations of a former school building that is not disability-friendly, and Lumajang's geographical vulnerability to Mount Semeru's eruptions, which demands disaster-preparedness literacy. This design aims to transform the conventional library into a multifunctional Learning-Hub through a Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach integrated with Islamic values from QS. Al-Baqarah (2):185 and QS. Al-Mujadilah (58):11. Four HCD principles: empathy, adaptability, inclusivity, and sustainability & wellbeing, are translated into the concept of "The Living Pages," comprising three strategies: breathing, representing visual and social openness between interior and exterior spaces; layering, representing a gradual spatial experience resembling the act of turning pages in a book; and growing, representing spatial flexibility adaptive to evolving user needs. The resulting design features vertical zoning based on noise levels, a courtyard serving as a connector for circulation and natural ventilation, a multi-access plaza as a transitional space between the city and the building, and a disaster-mitigation education gallery responding to the local disaster context. This design is intended as an architectural proposition for the revitalization of public libraries that are more inclusive, adaptive, and relevant to the evolving needs of the Lumajang community.

شير انخفاض عدد زوار المكتبة العامة في مقاطعة لومايانج بنسبة 48.75% من عام 2023 إلى عام 2024 إلى أن مبنى المكتبة الحالي لم يعد ملائمًا لاحتياجات المجتمع في الوقت الراهن. ويتفاقم هذا الوضع بسبب انخفاض مؤشر تنمية محو الأمية المجتمعي في لومايانج عن المعدلين الإقليمي والوطني، والقيود المادية لمبنى مدرسة سابق غير ملائم لذوي الإعاقة، فضلًا عن هشاشة لومايانج الجغرافية تجاه ثورانات بركان سيميرو التي تتطلب توفير ثقافة التأهب للكوارث. يهدف هذا التصميم إلى تحويل المكتبة التقليدية إلى مركز تعلم متعدد الوظائف من خلال منهج التصميم المتمركز حول الإنسان (Human-Centered Design)، المدمج مع القيم الإسلامية المستلهمة من قوله تعالى في سورة البقرة (٢): ١٨٥، وسورة المجادلة (٥٨): ١١. وتُترجم المبادئ الأربعة لهذا المنهج - التعاطف، والتكيف، والشمولية، والاستدامة والرفاهية - إلى مفهوم "الصفحات الحية" (The Living Pages)، الذي يتألف من ثلاث استراتيجيات مكانية: التنفّس، ويمثل الانفتاح البصري والاجتماعي بين الفضاءين الداخلي والخارجي؛ والتدرّج الطبقي، ويمثل تجربة مكانية متدرجة تشبه عملية قراءة صفحات كتاب؛ والنمو، ويمثل مرونة الفضاء القابلة للتكيف مع تغيّر احتياجات المستخدمين. ويتمثل التصميم الناتج في مبنى ذي تقسيم رأسي قائم على مستويات الضجيج، وفضاء داخلي مكشوف (courtyard) كعنصر رابط للحركة والتهوية الطبيعية، وساحة عامة متعددة المداخل كفضاء انتقالي بين المدينة والمبنى، ومعرض تعليمي للتأهب للكوارث استجابةً لسياق الكوارث المحلي. ويُتوقع أن يكون هذا التصميم مقترحًا معماريًا لإحياء المكتبات العامة بشكل أكثر شمولية وتكيفًا وملاءمة لديناميكية احتياجات مجتمع لومايانج.
