Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Malang Fashion Hub is designed as a center for creative collaboration that integrates educational, production, and public interaction functions within a sustainable fashion ecosystem. The project is located in the heritage district of Kayutangan, occupying the existing structure of the former Hotel Trio Indah, which has undergone functional degradation and become a residual space within an otherwise active urban corridor. Through an adaptive reuse and infill design approach, this project aims to revitalize the old building by preserving its historical façade identity while introducing new interventions that respond to contemporary needs. The design concept, “Weaving Stories, Stitching Connections,” is manifested through the restoration of the building’s original character, activation of public spaces through placemaking strategies, and the creation of flexible spatial modules that accommodate educational programs, fashion shows, retail activities, and community collaboration. A pedestrian-centric treatment is applied to strengthen the area’s connectivity and reestablish human scale within the Kayutangan environment. The design outcomes demonstrate that the revitalization of an old structure through adaptive reuse can serve as a catalyst for local economic and cultural growth, support the development of small fashion enterprises, and reinforce the city’s identity as a creative hub. This project exemplifies how architectural heritage can be reactivated as a living space that remains relevant for current and future generations.
