Abstract

INDONESIA:

ENGLISH:
Hypertension is one of the leading causes of premature death globally and is known as the silent disease because it often has no symptoms until detected through blood pressure checks. The WHO predicts that 1.5 billion people will have hypertension by 2025, while the 2018 Riskesdas recorded a prevalence of 34.1% in Indonesia. Low physical activity is a modifiable risk factor, particularly among the elderly. The Camplong Community Health Center's service area has community characteristics that may influence physical activity patterns and blood pressure. To analyze the relationship between physical activity levels and the incidence of hypertension among elderly people at the Camplong Community Health Center, Sampang, Madura, East Java. Quantitative research with a cross-sectional observational analytical design. The sample consisted of 100 elderly individuals (≥60 years) selected using convenience sampling, calculated using the Slovin formula (α = 1%). Data were collected through blood pressure measurements and the IPAQ-SF physical activity questionnaire. Analysis was performed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The majority of respondents were female (70%), aged 60–64 years (67%), and moderate physical activity levels. The Spearman rank test showed p = 0.027 (<0.05) and a correlation coefficient of -0.221, indicating a weak negative relationship. There is a significant relationship between physical activity levels and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly at the Camplong Community Health Center. Adequate physical activity can be a preventive measure to reduce the risk of hypertension in older adults.
