Abstract
ABSTRACT
One of the sunlight that reaches the earth's surface is ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays can cause skin damage such as hyperpigmentation, erythema and sunburn so that sunscreen is needed as a skin protector. Sunscreens are widely available in the cosmetic market with active ingredients that are said to cause allergies so that solutions are needed in the form of natural ingredients from nature. Natural ingredients that have the potential as sunscreens are red pomelo plants (Citrus maxima (Burm.) Merr.). Based on the results of research obtained from testing samples using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer in vitro, Extracts from red pomelo peel (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr) have low potential as an alternative natural sunscreen. Extracts from red pomelo flesh (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr) have the potential as an alternative natural sunscreen in the sunscreen category. The %Te and %Tp criteria of red pomelo peel extract (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr) are fast tanning and total block at concentrations of 200, 250, and 300 ppm, respectively. At concentrations of 350 and 400 ppm, it falls into the regular suntan and total block categories. The SPF criteria in the minimum protection category are at a concentration of 200 ppm, extra protection (250 ppm), maximum protection (300 and 350 ppm), and ultra protection (400 ppm). The %Te criteria of red pomelo flesh extract (Citrus maxima (Burm) Merr) are fast tanning (200ppm), extra protection (250, 300, 350 ppm), and total block (400 ppm). The %Tp criteria fall into the total block category at all concentrations. SPF criteria in the minimum protection category (200, 250, 300 ppm) and medium (350 ppm 400 ppm).
