ABSTRACT

Like comparative literature and translation studies, transformation demands a willingness to think multidimensionally because it operates in at least two or more different domains. Transformation involves translating, adapting, and transferring from one art form to another. Given the differences in form between novels and movies, changes are bound to occur in forming new structures, both intrinsic and extrinsic elements. To transfer is to change, and to change is to produce something different from what existed before. Based on that, the objectives of this study are: to know the characterization in the story “Aladdin the Mole” by Naguib Mahfouz, the characterization in the movie “Aladdin (2019)” by Walt Disney Pictures, and to know the characterization construction that occurs in both. The theories used are structuralism theory, transformation theory and ekranization theory. Structuralism theory is used to find the intrinsic elements, in the form of characterization, in the story, the theory of transfer and ekranisasi is used to analyze the changes that occur in the process of transferring from novel to film. This type of research is a descriptive qualitative research with a structural approach. The data sources used in this research are the story “Aladdin the Mole” by Naguib Mahfouz and the movie “Aladdin (2019)” owned by Walt Disney Pictures. The data collection techniques used in this study include several techniques, including: reading techniques, viewing techniques, and note-taking techniques. And in this study, researchers analyzed the data using the Miles and Huberman model which consists of three steps in data analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that there are changes in characterization that occur in the process of transferring from novel to film. The changes that occur include the characterization of Aladdin's story in the novel, the characterization of Aladdin's story in the film, and the construction of the characterization of Aladdin's story in the novel to Aladdin's story in the film.

Seperti halnya kajian-kajian sastra bandingan dan terjemahan, alih wahana menuntut suatu kesediaan untuk berpikir secara multidimensional. Alih wahana mencakup kegiatan penerjemahan, penyaduran, dan pemindahan dari satu jenis kesenian ke jenis kesenian lain. Mengingat adanya perbedaan wujud antara novel dan film, perubahan sudah semestinya terjadi dalam membentuk struktur baru, baik unsur intrinsik maupun unsur ekstrinsik. Mengalihkan berarti mengubah, dan mengubah berarti menghasilkan sesuatu yang berbeda dari yang ada sebelumnya. Berdasarkan hal itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah: untuk mengetahui penokohan dalam cerita “Aladdin Si Tahi Lalat” karya Naguib Mahfouz, penokohan dalam film “Aladdin (2019)” oleh Walt Disney Pictures, dan mengetahui konstruksi penokohan yang terjadi pada keduanya. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori strukturalisme, teori alih wahana dan teori ekranisasi. Teori strukturalisme digunakan untuk mencari unsur intrinsik berupa penokohan, teori alih wahana dan ekranisasi digunakan untuk menganalisis perubahan yang terjadi dalam proses alih wahana dari Novel ke Film. Jenis penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan struktural. Sumber data yang digunakan penelitian ini adalah cerita “Aladdin Si Tahi Lalat” karya Naguib Mahfouz dan Film Film Disney “Aladdin”. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi: teknik membaca, teknik menonton, dan teknik mencatat. Dan dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menganalisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang terdiri dari tiga langkah, yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perubahan penokohan yang terjadi pada proses alih wahana dari Novel ke Film. Perubahan-perubahan yang terjadi diantaranya adalah penokohan cerita Aladdin dalam novel, penokohan cerita Aladdin dalam film, dan konstruksi penokohan cerita Aladdin dalam novel ke cerita Aladdin dalam film.
