Representation of modern toxic masculinity on Andrew Tate's tweet

This research aimed to analyze the representation of modern masculinity in Andrew Tate's tweets. This study applied descriptive qualitative method as the research design and combined two theories, first to analyze what processes are in the tweets of toxic masculinity posted by Andrew Tate used Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) theory by Halliday (2014), and the second to classify the types of toxic masculinity did by Andrew Tate by using Toxic Masculinity theory by Kupers (2001). The data for this research was taken from Andrew Tate's tweets from March 1 to September 30, 2023. The results of this study showed that in presenting modern toxic masculinity, the relational identifying processes are most dominantly used. Followed by material process, relational attributive process, and the last is Mental process. Moreover, this study found 18 processes, 32 participants, and 4 circumstances. In addition, it also found the type of toxic masculinity that Andrew Tate did a lot, as the types found were domination, violence, and misogyny. Future researchers who want to research the same topic representation of modern toxic masculinity can use all three metafunctions: ideational metafunction, interpersonal metafunction, and textual metafunction. Future researchers can also continue this research by taking more various data and different types of social media platforms.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi maskulinitas modern dalam tweet Andrew Tate. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif sebagai desain penelitian dan menggabungkan dua teori, pertama untuk menganalisis proses apa saja yang ada dalam tweet toxic masculinity yang diposting oleh Andrew Tate menggunakan teori Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) dari Halliday (2014), dan kedua untuk mengklasifikasikan jenis-jenis toxic masculinity yang dilakukan oleh Andrew Tate menggunakan teori Toxic Masculinity dari Kupers (2001). Data untuk penelitian ini diambil dari tweet Andrew Tate dari tanggal 1 Maret hingga 30 September 2023. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam mempresentasikan toxic masculinity modern, proses identifikasi relasional paling dominan digunakan. Diikuti dengan proses material, proses atributif relasional, dan yang terakhir adalah proses mental. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini menemukan 18 proses, 32 partisipan, dan 4 keadaan. Selain itu, ditemukan juga tipe toxic masculinity yang banyak dilakukan Andrew Tate, adapun tipe yang ditemukan adalah dominasi, kekerasan, dan misogini. Peneliti selanjutnya yang ingin meneliti topik yang sama yaitu representasi toxic masculinity modern dapat menggunakan ketiga metafungsi yaitu metafungsi ideasional, metafungsi interpersonal, dan metafungsi tekstual. Peneliti selanjutnya juga dapat melanjutkan penelitian ini dengan mengambil data yang lebih beragam dan jenis platform media sosial yang berbeda.

يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحليل تمثيل الذكورة الحديثة في تغريدات أندرو تيت. وقد طبقت هذه الدراسة المنهج الوصفي الكيفي كتصميم للبحث وجمعت بين نظريتين، الأولى لتحليل ماهية العمليات في تغريدات الذكورة السامة التي نشرها أندرو تيت باستخدام نظرية اللغويات الوظيفية النظامية (SFL) لهاليداي (2014)، والثانية لتصنيف أنواع الذكورة السامة التي قام بها أندرو تيت باستخدام نظرية الذكورة السامة لكوبرز (2001). تم أخذ البيانات الخاصة بهذا البحث من تغريدات أندرو تيت من 1 مارس إلى 30 سبتمبر 2023. أظهرت نتائج هذه الدراسة أنه في عرض الذكورة السامة الحديثة، فإن عمليات التعريف العلائقية هي الأكثر استخدامًا. تليها العملية المادية، ثم العملية الإسنادية العلائقية، وأخيرًا العملية العقلية. علاوة على ذلك، وجدت هذه الدراسة 18 عملية و32 مشاركًا و4 ظروف. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، وجدت أيضًا نوع الذكورة السامة التي قام بها أندرو تيت كثيرًا، حيث كانت الأنواع التي تم العثور عليها هي الهيمنة والعنف وكراهية النساء. يمكن للباحثين المستقبليين الذين يرغبون في البحث في نفس الموضوع المتمثل في تمثيل الذكورة السامة الحديثة استخدام جميع أنواع الذكورة السامة الثلاثة: الوصفية الفكرية، والوظيفة الوصفية الشخصية، والوظيفة الوصفية النصية. يمكن للباحثين المستقبليين أيضًا مواصلة هذا البحث من خلال أخذ المزيد من البيانات المتنوعة وأنواع مختلفة من منصات التواصل الاجتماعي.
