ABSTRACT

The novel "قلب الليل" tells the dramatic story of a man named Ja'far who is full of the twists and turns of life. He was once at the height of happiness, then mired in the abyss of grief of his own making. The intense emotional pressure of the past led Ja'far to quite heavy phases of life. Ja'far showed a wide range of emotions when faced with the situations that surrounded him. This study uses David Krech's literary psychology approach which discusses the emotions of characters in literary works. This study aims to describe the emotions of the main character in the novel "قلب الليل" based on David Krech's point of view. This research included qualitative-descriptive research. The primary data source comes from the novel "قلب الليل" by Naguib Mahfouz. Data collection techniques consist of reading techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques using the Miles and Huberman model: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that the emotional forms of the main character of the novel "قلب الليل" include: (1) basic emotions: 2 feelings of anger, 2 feelings of sadness, 1 feelings of joy, and 1 feeling of fear; (2) emotions of self-assessment: 2 feelings of pride and shame, 2 feelings of success and failure, and 3 feelings guilt and regret; (3) Social emotions: 1 feelings of love and 2 feelings of hatred.

Novel “قلب الليل” menceritakan kisah dramatis seorang lelaki bernama Ja’far yang penuh dengan lika-liku kehidupan. Ia pernah berada dipuncak kebahagiaan, lalu terperosok dalam jurang kepiluan yang dibuatnya sendiri. Tekanan emosi yang kuat di masa lalu mengantarkan Ja’far pada fase-fase kehidupan yang cukup berat. Ja’far menunjukkan berbagai macam emosi ketika berhadapan dengan situasi yang menghimpitnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra David Krech yang membahas tentang emosi tokoh dalam karya sastra. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan emosi tokoh utama dalam novel “قلب الليل” berdasarkan sudut pandang David Krech. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kualitatif-deskriptif. Sumber data primer berasal dari novel “قلب الليل” karya Naguib Mahfouz. Teknik pengumpulan data terdiri dari teknik baca dan teknik catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bentuk emosi tokoh utama novel “قلب الليل” meliputi: (1) emosi dasar: 2 rasa marah, 2 rasa sedih, 1 rasa gembira, dan 1 rasa takut; (2) emosi penilaian diri: 2 rasa bangga dan malu, 2 rasa sukses dan gagal, serta 3 rasa bersalah dan menyesal; (3) emosi sosial: 1 rasa cinta dan 2 rasa benci.
