Abstract
ABSTRACT
There are many people who have different styles in their communication with others, including the style of pit rents’ dialogue with their own children. In this recent time, almost all of parents’ utterances cause some effect to their children, both good and bad effects. Tliis research focuses on investigating of parents’ speech acts used to their own children in Buring Malang. It is to answer and describe the kinds of speech acts used by parents to children in Buring Malang, and to know the ways in which they use speech acts in communication with their children.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative method because the data analysis arc in form of the dialogue not numerous. There are 9 dialogues presented as the data, which arc collected from utterances of parents in Buring Malang. It focuses on August 1,2003 up to September 15, 2003. 'fhc data arc analysed through (he ways and the kinds of speech acts used by parents to children in Buring Malang. Also, the key instrument is researcher himself.
Based on the data presentation, the researcher analyses the data through three kinds of speech acts used by parents to children in Buring Malang. They are locutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act. Also, it is analysed through the ways and characteristics of speech acts either direct or indirect speech acts.
In the end of this writing, it can be concluded that speech acts used by parents to children in Buring Malang are various. But, almost in speech acts used by them are to get attention from their own children. Parents usually wait their own children became like what they want. Therefore, almost all of the topics of speech act used by parents to children in Buring Malang are advises.
Finally, the researcher hopes that this research can be a useful reference for the readers especially for the next researchers who arc interested in discussing about speech theory.
