Abstract
ABSTRACT
Figurative language is a figure of speech which has hidden meaning. Figurative language can make the words are more live. The readers can influence by the words which have figurative language. Figurative language has some kinds. They are personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbolic, and repetition.
This study focuses on analyzing the figurative language in Chrisye’s songs. Based on the background of the study, the analysis on figurative language in the lyrics of Chrisye’s songs was conducted with the problems of the study: (1) what are the types of figurative language in the lyrics of Chrisye’s songs, (2) what are themes of Chrisye’s songs, and (3) how are the relationship between figurative language with theme of Chrisye’s songs.
,This analysis was done using descriptive qualitative and criticism method. The data were in the form of texts. This data are 13 songs from 4 cassettes. They are Konser Tur 2001, Badai Pasti Berlalu, the Best of Chrisye, and Dekade Albums.
The findings covering the foimulated analysis questions are: first, the types of figurative language in the lyrics of Chrisye’s songs. The writer was found five types of figurative language in the lyrics of Chrisye’s songs. They are personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbolic, and repetition. Some of figurative language is make majority in Chrisye’s songs. They are: (1) “Kala Sang Surya Tenggelam” is a personification, (2) “Lilin - Lilin Kecil” is also personification, (3) “Sentuhanmu” is a metaphor, (4) “Puspa Indah” is also metaphor, (5) “Juwita” is a simile, (6) “Sabda Alam” is a personification, (7)”Angin Malam” is a metaphor, (8) "Baju Pengantin” is a personification, (9) “Merepih Alam” is a metaphor, (10) “Khayalku” is also metaphor, (11) “Anggrek Bulan" is a personification, and (12) “Di Bawah Sinar Bulan Pumama” is also personification. Second, every Chrisye’s songs has theme. All themes of Chrisye’s songs are about love. Third, all themes of Chrisye’s songs are related with figurative language. So, the songs of Chrisye are good.
Based on those findings, the conclusions of the study are: first, the types of figurative language are personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, and repetition. Second, theme was found the writer all of Chrisye’s songs. Third, all of themes of Chrisye’s songs has related with figurative language. It is recommended for the future studies that they might have similar analysis with different perspectives.
