Explicature in warning signs posted in UIN Malang

ABSTRACT

Explicature is non-truth functional understanding that is taken as said by overt blocking; the ،،pragmatic” enrichment of what is uttered. 'There must be contextual enrichment of what is said before the semantic propositions can be identified. The steps to reach explicature are first, considering the vague terms, second, adding some words, which has disambiguation and third, reference assignment.

This research is about explicature used in warning sign posted in UIN Malang. 'The research problem of this research was formulated on the question. How explicature is used in warning sign posted in UIN Malang.

This research is conducted to use descriptive qualitative method, because the data in the form of written text of warning sign posted in UIN Malang are presented into sentences. The researcher is the main instrument to collect data. The data is description analysis.

The discussion in the research uses Wilson and Sperber theories. For the first time the researcher took the data from data source in UIN Malang. To get the data the researcher does the following steps. First step, she looked for the data in UIN Malang and then she records them by writing. Second step, data reduction by classified the data based on the different messages and on the Sperber and Wilson’s theory of explicature. Then, the data are analyzed based on the theories. There are three ways to reach explicature. First is determining the vague terms by explaining the salient meaning. Second is adding word and third is describing explicature and reference assignment. Finally the researcher made a conclusion of what she studied. After analyzing the data the researcher found that there are some important things based on three ways that explain above. First is not all of utterances contain of salient meaning, second there are same word but it has different meaning, the last is there are some different utterances but it has same intended meaning.

The researcher hopes this research can give a new contribution to the readers, especially the students who are interested to the explicature. Furthermore, the researcher also hopes this research can give an inspiration for the next researcher who wants too study about explicature.
