Abstract
ABSTRACT
As a social person, human being use language as a mean for interaction in their similar speech community. We realized that slips of the tongue happened on our daily conversation. Slips of the tongue is said to have occurred when the speaker's actual utterance differs from the intended utterance. The researcher focused on types of slips of the tongue and the description how are slips of the tongue happened on news presenter of Liputan 6 SCTV especialy in politic section. We know that when news presenters have slips of the tongue in giving information, it can make the audiences confused, misunderstanding, or get unclear information. So the most important is the news presenters have to be careful in presenting news.
This descriptive qualitative research is the research design in this study. The data were collected from the utterances (speech) of news presenter of Liputan 6 SCTV focused on May 16th to June 16th 2005. They were analyzed by using the following steps: presenting, identifying, arranging, describing and discussing, finally making general conclusion. The key instrument is the researcher her self; here the researcher used tape recorder and note field to collect and write the data that she got.
The data analysis revealed some findings covering the formulated research problems. First, the types of slips of the tongue happened on news presenter of Liputan 6 SCTV. The researcher found 31 slips of the tongue, from those utterances the researcher found 6 types of tongue-slips. Here are: anticipations, blends/haplologies, misderivations/shifts, substitutions, additions, and deletions.
Second, the descriptions of slips of the tongue happened on news presenter of Liputan 6 SCTV. After having investigation the researcher found that slips of the tongue completely happened on news presenter of Liputan 6 SCTV. In this study, substitutions are 12 data. Deletions are 8 data. Additions are 5 data. Anticipations are 4 data. Blend is 1 datum and misderivation is 1 datum too. So substitutions became dominant because it frequently appeared, whereas blends and misderivations were rarely found in this study.
Finally, the researcher hopes that in spoken we have to be careful in giving information because the audiences can catch the main idea of information given depend on the way how the speaker produce or present the intended utterances, especially the news presenters have to be careful in presenting news. Furthermore, it is expected to be a way or contribution to minimize the existence of slips of the tongue, especially for news presenters in giving information and others in communicating.
