Aspects of humor in Dono’s novel entitled “Bila Satpam Bercinta”

ABSTRACT

In our life we used to hear or meet something that makes us smile or probably laugh. The effects of laugh are called humor. As a condition that can create an effect of laugh, humor is an element that can’t be separated from our life, because humor is useful for health and spirit health.

Humor as an aspect of fun can be met in many forms. In this research design, the researcher analysis humor aspects that are exist in novel. And the novel that is analyzed is ،، Bila Satpam Bercinta” by Dono, a humorist writer and also an artist. By the way, actually there are many humorous ideas that the writer shows in his novel, but in this research design the researcher searches about humor that is shown in word plays, characterization of players and events.

By this research, it is hoped that the readers realize that humor can be concreted in many ways and it is also hoped as additional knowledge for the student in understanding humor, especially in literary works.

Based on the purposes of this study, the research design that is used is qualitative descriptive. It is used in order to get clear description about humor aspects that are shown by the writer in his novel.

In collecting the data, all data about humor aspects in word plays, characterization of players and events were searched in library and from internet. Then those data was analyzed.

The results of this study are: humor as an aspect of laugh can be expressed in many ways, among other thing; word plays, characterization of players and events.

In showing humor by using word plays, the writer playing with words to express his humor idea. In this case he uses inappropriate context of allusion, unusual nickname, and pun. Insertion of an allusion in this novel, actually not to strict a linguistic, but it is a form of humor that depends on the reader’s knowledge of the exact words and origin of an allusion. The writer to arise humor uses unusual nicknames. He thinks some of the words that strike the readers as being funny, some name he might use for a certain type of his novel character. He adjusts those names for a humorous effect. And the last is by using pun. In this case, the writer makes up a pun by deliberately confusing words of phrases that sound alike but have different meanings.

Another way to express humor in this novel is by using characterization of players. There are two techniques for creating the humor of eccentric character these are distortion and repetition. In the novel that the researcher analyzed, technique that is used is repetition. The humor arises from the repetitive action to the situation in which it is practised.

And the last way that the writer uses to arise humor is by using humorous events. The ways that are used by the writer to create humor are unpredictable events, misunderstanding and behavior of players. By those ways, the writer creates events that strike the readers as being funny.
