Thematic analysis on Magdalena Novel by Mustafa Lutfi Al Manfaluthi

ABSTRACT

Theme is general or universal ideas explored in the literary work. It means the unifying generalization about life staled or implied in the story (text of story). It is not stated clearly into words of sentences. But. it is spread out in all elements that built the story such as. character, plot, selling, and others. Here. "Magdalena" was selected.

This study aimed at answering the research questions: (I) what are the sub- themes in the "Magdalena’’ novel by Mustafa Lutfi Al Manfaluthi? (2) What is the main theme in the ،،Magdalena” Luth Al Manfaluthi. The purposes of this studv are to find out ihe sub-themes and the main theme in the ،،Magdalena” Lutfi Al Manfaluthi novel as subject of this study.

This study used descriptive qualitative research because this study described certain condition, nature, or phenomena of an object of the study. Here. ،،Magdalena” novel, as data source and the research instrument is the writer himself.

It is found that the sub-themes are: (a) the beginning of the story, ،The spirit of love will be able to create someone to make a change for his life’, (b) ،the conflict of the story. ،Life is not enough with love only’, (c) The climax of the story, ،everything is possible lo happen in our life’, (d) the ending of the story. ،Life is a pan of God’s secrets’. And the main theme is ،True love is never disappear at all from heart ‘.

It is concluded that the theme is controlling idea or central insight of the fiction. Finally, il is suggested to other students who arc interested in literary work to pay more attention to the theme as the intrinsic clement of the story than others elements.
